Please call us at the numbers listed above so we can reserve a spot for you. The Middle Atlantic Blind Golf Association is looking for blind or visually impaired children ages 5-21 who are interested in learning to play golf. We are near youth living in Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Delaware. We can also make this happen for those of you who live anywhere else in this country. We provide each player with a PGA teacher who will give lessons at a golf course near his/her house. We will also provide golf clubs, golf balls, and a golf bag. We can teach you how to play golf! Transportation to the lessons is not included.

We have two outings at the Overbrook School for the Blind, and 10 outings with the First Tee program at Walnut Lane Golf Course, Overbrook Golf Course, and FDR/Jay Sigel Learning Center. We provide all players with a coach and lunch. We have prizes, pizza and soft drinks. You will have fun, we promise you. All this is free.

Do not forget to call us to reserve a spot!

Note that a letter and the schedule follows. Please read the article on junior blind golfer John Paul Corman at www.courierpostonline.com/story/news/health/2017/03/31/donors-help-barrington-boy-gain-sight/99822226 or on our Newsletter Articles page.

Letter to MABGA junior blind golfers and parents

Dear Parents and Students of MABGA,

As always The First Tee of Greater Philadelphia is looking forward to another great year of teaching you golf and life skills! For the past few years we have always tried to integrate our two programs so that MABGA students can benefit from all the GREAT things The First Tee of Greater Philadelphia has to offer.

This year we will be trying something new. For our MABGA Class all students are invited to participate in our Certification Classes. Our certification classes are designed for students to progress through our program as their Life and Golf Skills improve. Class will run Saturday’s from June 10-July 1 at our FDR/Jay Sigel Learning Center location. The two classes in which MABGA students can register for are PLAYER class from 9-10:30 or Par Class from 10:30-12. Our player class is for beginner or intermediate students. Our Par class is for intermediate and advanced students those who have been in the program for 3+ years.

An example of Lesson plans for our PLAYER classes:

  • Core Lesson #1- Welcome and Showing Respect-Putting
  • Core Lesson #2- Courtesy Towards Others-Putting/Chipping
  • Core Lesson #3- Responsibility For the Course- Chipping/Pitching
  • Core Lesson #4- The Honesty of Players- Pitching/Play
  • Core Lesson #5- Modeling Sportsmanship- Full Swing/Play
  • Core Lesson #6- Developing Sportsmanship-Drivers/Play
  • Core Lesson #7- Using good Judgment – Play
  • Core Lesson #8- Player with Perseverance-Play
  • Core Lesson #9- Living with Integrity -Play

Each lesson is designed to be exciting, interactive and engaging. All of our coaches follow a curriculum that is designed to help your child grow. We believe positive youth development happens through a meaningful, quality relationship between the coach and participant. Young people do not care what a coach knows until they know a coach cares . Our hope in integrating the programs is for your students to be paired with our Birdie and Eagle students. The Birdie and Eagle students are high school age and play competitive golf. The idea behind this is to give the opportunity to MABGA students to have mentors who have been through our program. Some benefits in the integration include: invitations to all tournaments through TFTGP, Family Fun Days, Leagues, Scholarships, friendships, access to our programs year round, etc.

I look forward to having you all return this year and for us to have yet another successful year with your students and the whole family!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Caimano
Program Director
